What it is

A research-focused platform for the Air Quality Monitoring Research Group, built with Sanity CMS for content management. Manages research publications, events, news, and partner relationships for an academic consortium collaborating with WHO, MIT, and EPA.

The Problem

Research groups working on air quality in Africa need a centralized platform to manage publications, share monitoring data, and collaborate across institutions. Existing academic platforms are expensive and not tailored to environmental research workflows.

My Role

Built the web platform including Sanity CMS integration, research publication management, event and news systems, and the responsive frontend with publication cards, partner logos, and newsletter integration.

Approach

Next.js frontend with Sanity CMS as the headless content backend. Structured content types for journal papers, conference papers, and technical reports. Responsive design with academic-grade typography using Inter and JetBrains Mono. Partner logo integration for WHO, MIT, EPA, LAMATA, and LASEPA.

Hardest Decision

Designing a content architecture that accommodates different publication types — journal papers, conference papers, and technical reports each have different metadata requirements. The CMS needed to support non-technical researchers entering content while maintaining consistent formatting.

Status

Live at aqmrg.org. Supports the research group's publication management, event coordination, and institutional partnerships with WHO, MIT, and EPA.

What I'd Change

Would add real-time data streaming from monitoring stations, implement a peer review workflow for publications, and build API integrations with major air quality data repositories.
