Mobile-first marketplace experience for Uganda
What it is
A responsive marketplace interface for buying, selling, and discovering products in Uganda. The frontend brings listings, search, wishlists, buyer-seller conversations, and trust signals together in a flow designed for mobile-first users.
The Problem
The marketplace needed to feel simple and trustworthy on the devices and connections many Ugandan users rely on. Buyers had to scan listings quickly, while sellers needed a low-friction path from posting to conversation.
My Role
Focused on the frontend implementation: responsive listing and search views, product detail pages, user-facing profile and wishlist flows, messaging interfaces, and mobile interaction patterns.
Approach
Built the interface with React and Next.js, prioritizing server-rendered product content, clear information hierarchy, responsive layouts, and lightweight interactions for mobile users. The UI makes verification, safety guidance, and seller communication visible without adding friction.
Hardest Decision
Building trust features — implementing safety tips, secure meeting location suggestions, and verification systems without adding friction that would discourage adoption in a market where simplicity drives usage.
Status
Live at dawa.ug as a frontend experience for a trusted Ugandan marketplace, covering product discovery, listing presentation, account surfaces, messaging, and safety-oriented interaction patterns.
What I'd Change
Would integrate mobile money payment escrow, add location-based search for local pickups, and implement a rating/review system for buyer-seller trust.
