STI One Stop Center
Government innovation portal for Uganda

What it is
A government-commissioned digital platform for Uganda's Science, Technology and Innovation (STI) One-Stop Center. Provides innovation submission, assessment, mentorship, funding opportunities, and IP registration support through a structured 4-step innovation journey.
The Problem
Uganda's science and technology innovators lack a centralized digital platform to submit innovations, access support services, and connect with funding and mentorship opportunities. Fragmented processes across government agencies slow down the innovation pipeline.
My Role
Built the complete government portal including innovation submission workflows, assessment tracking, partner organization integration, and the responsive frontend with i18n support and government accessibility standards.
Approach
Next.js with full i18n support (English primary). Government-standard design with blue/teal color scheme. Structured 4-step innovation journey (Register, Submit, Access Support, Scale & Impact) with progress visualization. Multi-partner integration with social media and newsletter systems. Government accessibility compliance.
Hardest Decision
Designing a system that accommodates the varying digital maturity of innovators — some are university researchers with technical documentation, others are artisans with handwritten descriptions. The submission flow needed to be simple enough for non-technical users while capturing sufficient detail for assessment.
Status
Live at osc.sti.go.ug. Government-backed platform supporting 500+ innovators, 50+ funded projects, and 25+ partner organizations across Uganda's innovation ecosystem.
What I'd Change
Would implement a research data repository integration, add automated citation and impact tracking, and build mobile-optimized interfaces for field researchers.
